my court appointed attorney is not keeping me informed,is this normal?

It is not proper but it is normal. Attorneys do not make much on Court appointed cases and as a result, some attorney's tend to put them on the back burner. If you have made repeated attempts - for example, daily attempts for more than one week to contact your Court appointed attorney and can not get through then the best way to motivate your lawyer to contact you is to leave them a phone message that if they do not contact you immediately you will file a grievance with the North Carolina State Bar. Most attorneys will return your call immediately. Having to deal with the Bar is something not many attorneys want to do.
