Re: friend of the court

Amicus brief is filed by a non-party in support of a legal

position. Generally, you are very close to the action but

are neither plaintiff nor defendant, you agree

strongly with the position or could be affected by the

outcome of the litigation. I believe in federal

court (where you usually find such situations)

you move the court or have the party you support move the court

to allow you to file, otherwise, you have no standing

and court might disregard your work.

Question to you- if you aren't sure what this is,

are you sure you want to dabble in this? If you aren't

into hardcore legal research are you

going to pay someone to do it? Judges may be

suspicious of self-help gangs to litigious

people who may appear to be uncoordinated in their case.

Good luck. DG
