Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

My Friend Needs To Come Home

My best friend has been charged with Accessory to Murder. He didn't have anything to do with it, he was just there at the time. He has no priors. He has done good since he has been in prison. The crime was comitted in DC but they transferred him to North Carolina. So I don't know what law he would have to follow. How can he come home, even if it is on parole or anything for that matter as long as he is here.

Re: My Friend Needs To Come Home

If the crime was committed in DC, DC law will prevail. I am not familiar with the law there. However, I do know that most jurisdictions, including NC, have abolished parole. NC, you must serve 85 % of your sentence, whether you do well in prison or not. Whether he had anything to do with the murder or not is, at this point in time, irrelevant. He apparently has been convicted. Generally, prisoners have no say in where they are housed. I would advise you to find out the sentencing procedures of DC.

Good luck
