Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

are individuals required to answer questions by police. can you refuse to go to headquarters for questioning.

No! Unless you know exactly what you are doing (and unless you are a criminal defense attorney - you don't) you should never ever under any circumstances whatsoever answer any question from any law enforcement officer. Here's why - if the officer has what they need to arrest you they aren't going to waste time asking you questions - they will just arrest you. When they don't quite have what they need, they ask questions hoping you will be stupid enough to fill in the blanks for them and most people are that stupid. This is especially true if you actually are innocent and didn't do what they are questioning you about - prisons are full of innocent dum dums who just could resit the urge to 'tell their side of the story'. Look - there is no Santa Claus and after about 7th grade Officer Friendly is no longer your buddy. Yes, you can and should refuse to go somewhere and be questioned.
