Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

I was informed that i have a 1982 fel larceny and breaking and entering charge in north carolina that's preventing me finding new employment eventhough i've been working for the past 20 years in health care. i was recently laid off and it's been tough finding a job because of the felony conviction that occurred in 1982 when i was 16. is there any way this can be expunged or erased from my record? please advise. thanks.

You are eligible for an expungement under NCGS 15A-145. It is a fairly time consuming process because the SBI must certify that you have never had an expungement before, and it is currently taking them 4 to 6 months to return the certification to the court because they are under staffed. You need to find a good criminal defense attorney and get the process started as soon as possible.
