Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

My ex issued a temporary domestic violence order against me like 2 years ago. After receiving the order, I went to court after like 7 days for the hearing (along with my lawyer). The case was dismissed because my ex had lied and I had text messages and phone calls to prove that he was the one that was still trying to talk to me. I am now starting a master's degree where they will do a background check. Will this show up? Also, is this something that can be expunged forever?

Thank you

It may show up depending on what type of record check they do dvpo's are civil matters so they don't necessarily show up everywhere. However, even if it does show up, you simply need to explain yourself as you have done hear. Most people can empathize with having a ex who is a bit of a jerk and the fact that it was dismissed supports your claims. As to the expungement, you can look into it but likely not. Even if you could expunge it, it likely isn't worth the effort. Any application for anything more than say a dish washing position will specifically ask if you have had an expungement, and getting caught lying in your case would be worse than the event itself. So it is virtually worthless for most purposes. Best of luck.
