Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
laim against my roommate. This past weekend, I left to go out of town under the impression it would be just her in our home. She threw a party and while she was drunk, approximately $500+ worth of my belongings were stolen from my locked bedroom. A cup of alcohol and glow stick were left by the thief. Although she may not have stolen the belongings herself, she is responsible for her guests and who she allows in our house. Am I able to sue her?

You assume too much - unless you have information that is undisclosed here, there is no way to know if the person who left the cup of alcohol and glow stick is the thief. And why would you think your roommate is responsible for the behavior of guests? As to suing the roommate - sure you can sue anyone for anything. However, the real questions are: is it worth it and what are your odds of winning? The answer to the important questions is that is is not likely worth it because it would cost more to sue than what the items are worth and your chances of winning are likely less than slim and none. You may wanna invest in a better lock or a new roommate rather that suing. Best of luck!
