i am on probation for a felony charge i am about to take a plea for a misdemeor charge can i hire a lawyer to help me not go to jail for probation violation

Yes, I would strongly recommend that you hire an experienced trial attorney. There are often ways to enter the plea to the new charge so that there is not a violation of probation, or possibly have the violation served, and heard the same day as part of a plea agreement.
