Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
Release of personal information by the newspaper
I was recently convicted of a felony in the state of north carolina. When the local newspaper wrote about my case, they released my home address. Is is legal for the newspaper to print this information in their paper?

Re: Release of personal information by the newspaper
In short, yes. It may not be helpful to you and
your family, but so long as it is available in
public record, including the charging documents
and commitment papers it is in the public
domain. We even have a weekly free paper which runs
mug shots of absconders and noncompliant child
support responsible parties listing every charge
in the county from murder to public urination,
giving name and address.
