Sex Offender Registration Requirement

I was convisted in MA in 1987 for an offense that requires registration in NC, and completed parole in MA in 1994.

I've looked at the NC sex offender registration and it appears that registration is required only if convicted after Jan 1 1996.

Is that correct?

If I move to NC from MA where the date is a conviction back to 1981 would I have to register.

Barring parole and court requirements, the registration rules are governed by the state in which you domicile.
