Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
If my sister and I got in a fight in a public place and the cops were called and a police report was filed but I did not press charges. It has been almost 2 years and I am having Vision problems from the black eye she gave me can I press charges or take out a law suit against her to pay for visible damages?

At this point attempting to have criminal charges taken out on your sister won't really accomplish anything assuming the statue of limitations hasn't expired and since two years has passed since the incident, you will be hard pressed to prove that your current eye problems are the result of a mere black eye from two years ago. However, you do have 3 years to file a personal injury suit and if you can get a doctor to state that your current eye problems are the result of the fight between you and your sister and no other cause - you may have a case. Of course if your sister, doesn't have any money then even if you win - you aren't going to get anything and all of the legal crap will just drive a wedge between you and your sister and possibly other family members..
