Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
My son is 20 and he and some friends were at a park after hours. There is no gate, but the officers giving him the ticket said the signs were posted. The police reports he was arrested for second degree trespassing although he was only given a citation. He has to appear in court in a few weeks. There is a small technicality on the citation about the actual time, being pm instead of am. Does he need to get a lawyer? He of course says it is a public park, but I know he should understand that bad things happen that late at night and the police are out to protect and stop problems.

Yes, your son should get a criminal lawyer immediately. You do not tell me what your son was charged with. However, any criminal conviction can have serious consequences for future employment. Having an attorney will help your son minimize any damage and make sure that his rights are protected.
