Legal Question in DUI Law in North Carolina
warrants in 2 states
I posted bond for someone(in NC) so they wouldn' loose their job (DUI and hit and run) I found out he was molesting my daughter and had him arrested in VA. he is going to miss the NC court date. They are telling me i am going to have to pay the bond, that it doesn't matter if he is in jail up here. He will not be out anytime soon, to get a postponment. Isn't there any thing i can do not to loose anything else to this man?

It sounds as if whoever these "they" are with whom you've apparently been conferring, that they simply don't know what they're talking about. Bonds are not routinely forfeited in most jurisdictions within the United States if the reason for the defendant's nonappearance is the fact that he's incarcerated somewhere else. The court should be formally (in writing) notified of this fact with proof of the incarceration in the other jurisdiction and the court should then take appropriate action to defer the matter without requiring the forfeiture of the posted bond.
