Legal Question in Education Law in North Carolina
I just received this email from my school. Is this legal?
"Hey Raptors,
Some of you may have noticed video cameras in your classrooms a few weeks ago. I figured I should let you all know what that is all about. As part of your teachers' ongoing efforts to be better teachers we are all going to be filming and evaluating our teaching techniques throughout the year.
These cameras are aimed at catching us in the act of good teaching, not catching you acting a fool. We want you to act as normal as possible. Please pretend the cameras are not there, and go about class the way you normally would. Again, while we will be watching the footage and will address anything grievous, we are not trying to get footage of you.
We are aware of which students have "No media" requests on file and will ensure that they are not in frame when the videos are taken. The videos are for the private use of the school only and will not be published in any form."

100% legal. I find it interesting that there are a number of students who apparently have "no media" requests on file. Students have no expectation of privacy in the classroom as anyone authorized to be in the school can come in the classroom or look inside the window or door.
The school should not use the images of the students for financial gains, but if they are using them for security or training purposes they are 100% ok, especially if notice is given.
