Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Im 17 and would like to change my last name. My aunt and uncle have legal guardianship over me. My father wont sign over his rights is there anyway I can change my last name without him signing over his rights. I have not seen or heard from him since I was born.

You don't need him to give up his rights - you can petition to have them taken from him or terminated. I'm surprised this hasn't already been done - unless he is paying child support. If you are successful, you may still need your mother's consent but you'd be a lot closer to getting that name change. Of course, when you turn 18, you can petition to change your name without parental consent. Best of luck!
