Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

my brother lives in california and he's been caught in a divorce that has lasted over five years and still going. the woman he trying to get out of his life have lied and made up so many things that isn't true.she told him she would make it go on forever and drain his income dry. she stated that the man don't count for nothing in california and they always side with the woman. i can't understand how a state can be so unfair, i know that eventually GOD will make it right, but how can she keep getting this postpone so she can draw alimony all these years, they don't have children or anything, and they sold the house and my brother have not seen a penny of that. he's such a wonderful guy, i hate to see this alcholic get over on him.

I cannot discuss your brother's issues with you for ethical reasons. Alimony does not depend on the number of children but on state law. Since the brother lives in California, I assume that his divorce is there and that your brother has an attorney, which is another reason that I cannot your brother's case with you.

California is a community property state in which things are split - it is not like North Carolina, which is an equitable distribution state (things may or may not be 50/50 depending on what is fair under the circumstances).

Alimony can be temporary or permanent and continues generally until death, remarriage or cohabitation. I have no idea about California, and your brother needs to see if this is the case in Calfornia.

I also do not know where your brother lives or how backlogged the court may be. Your brother needs to discuss all of these concerns with his attorney and try to get this case resolved once and for all so he can go on with his life.
