Child Support Question
My ex-boyfriend, who was initially fine with the fact that I became pregnant, is now refusing contact with me. He has stated that he wishes to waive his rights as the baby's father, but nothing has been taken to court or decided upon legally.
If he, in fact, refuses to have anything to do with this child, is there any point in me trying to take him to court for support? Can he voluntarily waive his rights and not have to pay support, or is that decision strictly up to the judge?
I'm trying to weigh my options, and decide what is best in the long run. Should I take him to court? Should I just let him leave and be done with it?

Re: Child Support Question
He can't just "waive" his rights as a father and run away, unless that's ok with you. It is your decision if you want to let him get away with this behavior, but it is certainly within your rights to get a child support order entered against him. Most courts have a child support enforcement office that can help you. They can even get his wages garnished to pay child support. Having a child is expensive, so please consider how the father's failure to pay support will affect your child's quality of life.
