Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
i have a co-worker who was raised by her grandmother, never met her biological mother. was told by her grandmother her name and birth date and always believed the information to be true. she has 3 children all whom on their birth certificates have the name and DOB told to her by her aging grandmother. She filed for a birth certificate from her country of birth and found she didnt have a middle name, and the DOB was off by 3 days. how can this information be changed on her children's birth certificates

Have her contact the NC Vital Records office or visit their website at http://vitalrecords.nc.gov/change.htm.
A form has to be filled out and the non-refundable fee paid. Your friend will have to gather the correct information and provide it to the NC vital records folks. They will review it and see if the birth certificates can be altered. I don't know if one form can be used for all 3 children or if 3 separate forms and 3 separate fees will have to be paid. Your friend should call first: 919-792-5986.
Otherwise a court petition would have to be filed. The court can order the changes and when the court order is presented to the state vital records department they will correct it.
