If he physically hurts you or even puts you in fear of being hurt, get a restraining order (50B) on him. Get away from him - go to a woman's shelter, stay with a friend, whatever. And file for spousal support. The other alternative is to file for a legal separation if you are unwilling to leave the marital home voluntarily. See if you qualify for legal aid. If not, see if any attorneys in your area will provide limited legal help (some do). Contract your local bar association to see which attorneys handle family law. Some attorneys may even do it pro bono (for free).
