Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
My divorce papers state that alimony is "open", what does that mean?

Normally, if alimony is not addressed during a divorce it is essentially waived and can not be brought up later. Occasionally, a Judge will allow alimony and/or other things to be held 'open' for disposition at a later date so that the divorce can be put in place without having to wait for the other things to be decided. Theoretically, a Judge is not suppose to do this but a NC Judge pretty much just does what ever they want.
