Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
my ex-wife got pregnant by another man before we were divorced. There was no mention of a child in the divorce papers. The baby is not mine. Now I am being told I have to sign something to clear it up. What is going on?

Neither I nor another attorney can tell you until we have seen the papers. It doesn't matter that the divorce papers made no mention of a child. Were you identified as the father on the birth certificate perhaps? What are you being asked to sign? If the child is not yours (are you sure? Was a blood test done or you can prove lack of impregnation of your wife at the time of conception? If you are aked to give up parentage and you know that the child is not yours, its probably ok to sign. However, if you are acknowledging that the child is yours, then that would hae repercussions and obligate you to pay support.
My advice is spend the money and pay a family law attorney to review the documents before you sign.
