Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

The father of my child wants to terminate his parental rights. He said he spoke with an attorney and that I have to file the paper work, is that correct? I plan on keeping my child.

Yes and no. The father cannot terminate his own parental rights if you have custody of the child. Only you can do that. And why would you want to do that? Termination cuts off the duty to support the child. You should only terminate the father's rights where: (a) the grounds for termination are met; and (b) there is another man (like your new husband) who wants to adopt the child.
