Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

My friend is 18 and her mom repeatedly slaps and hits her. Last night she busted my friend's lip. There is never any instigation or fighting back. Her dad sits back and does nothing. What can she do? I'm worried.

She is an adult. She can go to the magistrate's office and take out a warrant on her mom for assault and battery. A little trip to jail for Mom will hopefully put a stop to it.
