Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
gaining custody of my son
Hello I recently found out that my son is in North Carolina with his great grandparents. I also found out that his mother is in Prison in California, thats when his great grandparents took guardianship of him. I have not seen him at all due to his mother leaving me to go back to California when she was 4 months pregnant. I know its my son because California district attourney made me do a praternity test to determine if i was the father and it came back positive. I have paid child support up until the point when the state of california stop getting info from her. I want to get custody of my son as soon as possible... What is my best route of action. Thank you for taking the time to read this mail, i look forward to any help anyone might be able to provide me. I would prefer to not get a lawer involved due to costs of travel to and from north carolina to ohio.

Re: gaining custody of my son in NC
If your son has lived in NC for the last six months, you are going to have to file for custody in NC. It sounds like you will need to get a lawyer to handle this case. You will need to sue the mother and the great grandparents. There is no easy way to do this case. Also, if the great grandparents can prove that you are unfit to parent, then they can win custody and you will still probably have to pay child support.
