Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Husband put me out of our home after a 25 year marriage, of which was mostly abusive. Moved his girlfriend in our home 2 weeks later. Since then, I have obtained an attorney that has not accomplished anything in my favor within 3 yrs. One yr after separation my ex husband had a heart attack, family business gone and was on unemployment for at least a year. Ex husband received a lump sum of disability and it was 3 months before my attorney even realized it, only because of the information that I provided. Not once has my case been brought before the judge. I am living with my mom on a fixed income and my ex is living it up with a total income of approx. 4500.00 per month. Unfortunately, my ex husband seems to have 2 attorneys representing him and I none. Please help. My attorney never has time to help me. She is always postponing and is determined to not address my case in the court.

No attorney will intervene on your behalf as long as you are represented by an attorney. Its unethical and will get a lawyer in trouble. You hired her., Its up to you to fire her and get another attorney. You write a letter advising that the attorney's services are no longer needed, to prepare your file for you to pick up and to provide you with any final bill.

I would suggest that before you embark on such a drastic process that you try to physically meet with your attorney and air your concerns. If she does not provide satisfactory answers, then you ask for your file and fire her.
