if I inherit $ from my mother , will that become property that is eligible for division during a divorce in NC?

If you commingle it with other marital assets you could have a problem with losing some of it in a divorce. You should consult with an attorney about the various legal strategies to make sure your ex does not get any of the inheritance or at least minimize the amount subject to ED.
