Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

I live in Orrum, NC..Robeson County. I have 2 children I have been paying child support for (not court ordered) and the mother is threatening to stop letting me see them. What is the legal age that they can decide who they want to live with and can she legally stop me from our (verbal agreement) of getting them every other weekend?

There is no legal age. Child custody/visitation is based on the best interest of the the child. It will depend on the age and maturity of the child as to whether this standard is met.

Child support and custody/visitation are two separaete things. You have an obligation to support your children regardless of whether you see them. If she will not allow you to see the children, then file a custody/visitation petition in the county in which they reside. IF they live ouside of NC, then you will file whereever they live.

I assume that there are no prior custody/visitation orders. if there are, then you seek to hold the mother in contempt for violating the order. In that case, see a family attorney.
