how long do I have to live in a county to file for divorce?

Depends. If your spouse has resided anywhere in North Carolina for at least the 6 months prior to a divorce complaint being filed, then you don't need to meet any residency requirement and don't even have to have ever lived in any NC county. If your spouse has not lived in NC for at least the 6 months prior to a divorce complaint being filed, then you would be required to have lived anywhere in NC for at least the 6 months prior to a divorce complaint being filed. The only other requirement is that you must have been physically sperated for at least one year and at least one of you must have had the intention during that year to not resume the marital relationship.
