Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

paternal rights under NC law

I have a question concerning my paternal rights regarding my visitation of my 6 year old daughter.

She lives with her mother in NC and her mother has threatened me with not being able to see her. My name is not on the birth certificate for several reasons. The main one being she told me she had terminated the preg. and I moved to Texas. What are my rights ?

Re: paternal rights under NC law

You really need to get paternity established in order to pursue visitation rights. You should contact your local Child Support Enforcement Office or a private attorney to get the process started. You can establish paternity by signing an acknowledgement if you do not protest the claim that you are the father. Once that is done, you can pursue visitation legally.

This answer should not be considered legal advice and no attorney client relationship is being formed here.
