Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Does a person who recently found out that he was a father of a child, who is now five years old now, have any parental rights if the mother has been raising the child with her husband and the husband believes that he is the father?

Was the child born during the marriage? The husband of the woman is the presumptive father. You can try bringing a paternity action, but you have to see if you can disprove that the husband had access to the mother. And how do you know that the child is yours?

My advice would be to seek out a family lawyer who handles paternity cases in the county/state where the mother and child reside.

Be careful - paternity has consequences. while you get to see the child and develpy a relationship with him or her, you will be required to support the child. Are you prepared to do that?
