Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
request for production
I am going to court to have my child support amount reviewed. My ex-wife recently applied for public assistance which caused the state to review and raise the amount of our origional agreement. She has misrepresented her situation and she has no business appling for aid due to: She works, she has remarried, she has received a large inheritance, and I am in the navy and the kids are covered under my insurance. I beleive in paying my share and have done so from day one but there is just something wrong with my child support being doubled and then the very next month she goes out and buys a brand new firebird. So, my question is, Can I without the use of an attorney, (sorry, I'm broke!) do a 'request for production'' and require her to produce all finacial documents (ie: tax records, paystubs, bank accounts etc) So that I may use them to prove my case? Is there an official procedure for this? Your time is truely, greatly appreciated.

Re: request for production
Yes. You may request production of her financial status. It would be best if you could retain an attorney to do this for you. However, there is an alternative to retaining a lawyer at $100-$200 per hour. If you want more info please send me an e-mail and I will get the information out to you.
Good luck either way.
