Re: Seperation/Divorce

You will need to be legally separated for one year before you may obtain a divorce. If you and your husband are able to agree to the terms of divorce, then you may file for a no-fault divorce at the end of the separation year. Many individuals handle this type of divorce without attorneys but there is a somewhat complicated procedure that you must follow that the clerks at your county courthouse will instruct you on. However, the clerks are not able to provide legal assistance so you may want to see a full-service attorney to represent you.

You may also want to consider drafting a separation agreement which may potentially save you both time and money and keep the issues of the divorce out of the public. I provide clients with guidance through no-fault divorces and in the drafting of separation agreements. If you have any additional questions about the separation period, please contact me at my virtual law office at www.kimbrolaw.com.
