Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina
What type of form do I need to use to respond to a motion to modify custody order that my granddaughter's father has submitted to the court against my daughter and how many days do we have to submit a response after his papers has been filed
1 Answer from Attorneys
First of all, this is your daughter's issue, not yours unless you are seeking custody independently. Second, there is on form and your daughter has to draft her own response. That said, it has to be in proper legal format. My advice would be for you and your daughter to consult a family law attorney immediately. Perhaps the attorney will draft a response on her behalf. Some attorneys do provide limited legal services. If you get stuck, there is a self-serve center online at

However, your daughter or you will need a Charlotte address. There are links there to some common forms and to attorneys who have limited services and to clinics. If these attorneys are not convenient to you, check with your local bar association to see if they have a list of referral family law attorneys. Or try Legal Aid if you and your daughter are truly indigent. You will maximize your chance for success if you get an attorney to assist you.
