what type of visitation is appropriate with an infant

Depends. Infants can not care for themselves so the type and length of visitation should be determined by the ability of the person to properly care for the infant. A 17 year old father or mother with no experience caring for an infant and who can barely take care of him or herself should probably have limited supervised visitation. While a 40 year old stable father / mother of five children who has lots of experience with infants could likely have as much unsupervised visitation as agreed upon.
