Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina

Car damage unpaid

Around a month ago, my car was hit while parked on the street by a neighbor. He was very apologetic and said just to get an estimate and he would pay. I have since given him two estimates and he has yet to contact me on how to pay those. It seems as if he is avoiding me. His father has stated that he will take care of it but wants a 3rd estimate. How many estimates do I have to provide? I trusted him and did not call the police for an accident report.
