Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina
How do I collect on a judgement for a Promissory Note
Promissosry note for $25,000 WAS SIGNED ON November 30, 1993. I recieved interest on this in 1993 and 1994. On Jan 11,1994 I recieved a letter stating that the new maturity date would be May 30th 1994. In 1995 I sent a letter stating that my interest payment was due., May 30,1995. No money was sent and later I found out the owner had gone to East Coast Labs in North Carolina. The statute of limitations are different from state to state. Should I go to Court in Tampa or Greensboro North Carolina? Also if I go to Tampa courts willNorth Carolina accept and enforce the judgement?

If the note was a "Cognovit Note", containinga confession of judgement, and same is legalin your state, then local counsel should beable to obtain a judgement in your state. Thejudgement in your state should be given "fullfaith and credit" in the other two states, andcollection proceedures then followed in thosestates. See a qualified collection attny inyour state.
