Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina

How do I collect money in small claims court for someone who lives in another st

I live in New York and would like to procede in small claims court. However, the defendant resides in North Carolina which precludes processing claim in New York. Are there any stipulations in North Carolina that we must both reside there? If so, do I need to be present in court to file claim?

Generally, your must sue in small claims court where the defendant resides, or else the Vourt has no jurisdaiction over that party.
