Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina

my father recently left my mother and moved out of the family home. He took my guitar?case/accessories with him. I have spoken with him on the phone and exchanged numerous emails. He eventually agreed that he would send it back to me. He then decided to replace the guitar with a different one of his choice. I told him I wanted "mine" back. He then informed me that he had donated it to Goodwill. I believe he gave it to the son of his mistress and he probably doesn't want to lose face. What can I do to get my personal belongings back?

Sounds as if you may not recover the guitar. You probably have a claim against your father for the fair market value of the guitar at the time it was taken. Unless the guitar was some rare item or of significant value you will more than likely have to file a case in small claims court in the county in which your father currently resides. To be sure though, you may want to consult an attorney to get a true assessment of your potential claims.
