Misleading attorney

I went to court about a speeding ticket and was told that they would reduce the speed to 9 miles an hour over. at that time i got a continuance and contacted a lawyer, i told the lawyer that i could get it reduced, but the police officer was in another county when i got the ticket and asked if i had a case. they took my case and i paid them their fee. when i got my paper from the lawyer, it showed that it was reduced to 9 miles over and the fines were paid. i paid 450 dollars for something that i told them that i could have taken care of myself. do i have any legal action against this attorney for doing absolutely nothing for me?

Nope, I would guess not, under the circumstances which you've described.(If you had posed your question regarding this ticket in this particular forum, I would've advised you to handle it yourself and take a plea to a reduced speeding charge.)

Your mistake was in not settling the matter when you first went to court rather than asking for a continuance and then apparently unnecessarily entangling yourself with a pettifogger who was more than happy to take your money for what you yourself could've easily accomplished on your own without the pettifogger making an appearance in your case.
