Retainers

I was wondering if i retained a lawyer for something lets say i gave him 5000.00 dollars and he charged 200.00 dollars an hour and it came time i did not need hime anymore and he only worked 8 hours on my case would i be intitled to any of my money back or just lose it

We really need more facts to fully answer the question, such as the exact terms of the agreement. As a general matter, however, there are refundable and non-refundable retainers. Our ethical rules require that our fees not be unreasonably high, in view of the work done. In your case, I suspect that you would be entitled to a refund of the remainder. You may want to consult another lawyer, or consult the state bar if there is a dispute.
