My co worker told the boss I threatened him. Can I sue for slander?

Yes, but whether you should sue is another question.
First you have to prove the statement was made...requiring testimony from your boss.
Second, you have to prove the comment was a lie...your word versus his/her's so that's 50/50 based on who the Jury believes.
Third, you have to show that you were financial damaged (you lost your job or lost a promotion or raise ONLY because of the comment.
Finally, even if you put all of these things together and can prevail...slander/defamation cases are very difficult. You may get a judgment that is uncollectible if the person you sue has no money or assets to collect against. Many judgments in NC never get collected.
