Legal Question in Immigration Law in North Carolina
I-94 extension
I am working for an university with my H1B visa now. When I entered the US, my status was J1, and I got my status changed last October. My I-94 has ''D/S'' . At the back of my I-94, there is a number on DS2019. My DS2019 expired last August, and my J1 stamp will expire this May. I haven't gone back home to get a stamp since I have received the I-797B. Do I need to file a form to extend my I-94, or was it automatically extended when my employer received I-797B? Thank you very much.

Re: I-94 extension
It is important to look at your H-1b approval notice. It probably contains your new I-94 card. Remember, changing status from J-1 to H-1b in the US allows you to work for the H-1b employer but it is not a visa. It does not allow you to return to the US after foreign travel.
