Legal Question in Immigration Law in North Carolina

I have a friend who has been here for the past 17 years, but she cannot work.She came in the country on a visa;has 3 kids that were born here.She has no family back in her country, that she know of since she was adopted and her adopted mother past away 5years ago.Please if you can help me to help her.She is desparate to work legally for her children sake. How does she go about doing this?

What are the ages of her children? and is the father of the children an American Citizen? More information is needed.

We would need to know a lot more details about your friend's situation in order to determine her possibility of adjusting status and becoming a legal permanent resident. Exactly on what date did she arrive to the USA and with what type of visa? Did she ever submit any application with the immigration service before? What country is she from?
