tourist visa extention

Hi, I have a question regarding the tourist visa. My mom is now visiting me fromm Russia, she came here in Feb, and her I-94 is till 4 Aug, 2008. Her passport expires Aug 7th, 2008. Is it possible to extand her stay and get a new tourist visa, or she has to renew her passport? Thank you.

She can request an extension of her tourist visa and should do so immediately. She does not have to renew her passport to do that, but she may want to renew her passport anyway to keep it current, otherwise it may appear suspicious. Nevertheless, she can file for an extension prior to the deadline of her expiration date -- the sooner, the better.
