You do not need an attorney for an "examination under oath," but it may be wise to retain one. The insurer has questions about the claim you have submitted, and it therefore may be in your best interest to consult with an attorney and possibly for him or her to give you some guidance and preparation for the EUO. If a coverage dispute ensues, then he or she will be more up-to-speed. The EUO is not really a "hearing," but is simply a question-and-answer session, very similar to a "deposition," but not exactly the same.
