Legal Question in Employment Law in North Carolina

Is it alright to fire an employee for a rule that was never mentioned, or wrote down (there is no handbook)? The assistant manager also did the same exact thing I did, but got a verbal. Is there any legal rights I can take? I don't understand why I was treated so unfair, and that leaves me to feel like this is a discrimination towards my race.

North Carolina is an at will state, which means you can be fired for any legal reason. An illegal reason is being discriminated against based on your race. If you believe that persons of a different are being treated differently and you have been fired based on discrimination, you may have a valid discrimination claim. You should either call the EEOC Office nearest you or contact an attorney to discuss your legal rights.
