Legal Question in Employment Law in North Carolina

Can a current employer stop you from interviewing or accepting a position with another company? The company I work for is joint venture between two very large companies. The position I applied for is with one of the parent companies. I was scheduled for an interview tomorrow but it was canceled today. Management at my current job blocked it and wont allow me to interview or accept an offer. Is this legal?

Yes, it is legal...or rather, there is no law that prevents it.
