Legal Question in Employment Law in North Carolina

I entrusted one of my managers with some personal information regarding myself joining a methadone clinic in order to overcome my opiate addiction which I've been battling for seven years. Apparently this manager told the other three managers and one of them began speaking about with all my co-workers. My family doesn't even know about the clinic I am very private. Some random co-worker approached me in the middle of my shift to say she heard about me "quitting all the drugs" and would not tell me where she heard it; this pissed me off and I basically just told my boss to take care of it and walked out. Can I be fired? Can I sue? I just need to know my options in case push comes to shove. Please and thanks

Employers do not owe confidentiality to employees so, suing would be very difficult. As for your job, yes you can be fired. I would suggest going back to the manager and explaining you are upset but that you want to keep your job. Getting unemployment after walking off the job might be difficult.
