are there grounds for legal action if an employer terminates you and it's partially due to disability?

If you believe that you were terminated due to a disability, you should contact the EEOC immediately. There are a few offices in NC. Look up which is closest to you and file a complaint with them. You only have 6 months from the date of the termination to file a complaint with the EEOC.
