Legal Question in Employment Law in North Carolina
I work for the prison system in nc as a correctional officer.WE have to take training every year.Weapon being one of them and for 10 years They have let officer who have bad knees and can't get up from a kneeing place holster the weapon or ground the shot gun.Now they are changing the rules.You now have to get up with using your hands or grounding the weapon.They are saying you can be fired if you can't do it.I was hire a little over 10 years ago and I put on my application in a few places that I have bad knees.I was and still able to run ,stand ,knee and do everything the job reqiures ,but have not been able to get up with out placing my hands on the ground. can they fire a person for something like that?

Most likely yes. If they are saying that "due to recent circumstances or changes" that the job duties have been changes, they most likely can fire you. You need to speak to an employment attorney in your area to see what rights and appeals you are entitled to as a state employee.
